Halloween is upon us!  If you plan on dabbling in the fun that is Trick or Treating, make sure you follow a few simple tips to keep you and your family safe!  Plus check out our Halloween spoof video at the end of this post.

Plan your route in advance.

It’s important to know where you are going.  This will help you plan how long you’ll be out in the neighborhood.  This is especially helpful if you are traveling with little ones.  They may require frequent potty breaks.  Couple that with an elaborate costume and it may just be a nightmare if you aren’t prepared.

Dress comfy.

If you’re going to be canvasing the neighborhood, you want to make sure that you are comfortable.  Nothing is worse than giving up your adventure because your feet hurt.  A nice pair of comfy shoes will make the world of a difference and it will allow you to hit more homes and get more candy!! Yay for candy!!

There is nothing more stressful than trying to identify your child in a see of children.  It’s even more stressful if a few of those kids have the same costume as your child.  You want to be able to easily identify your child should they stray away.  Show those beautiful faces!

Stay in well lit areas.

While the allure of spooky, dark alleys may seem tempting to the most adventurous thrill seeker, it’s important to not venture off the beaten path.  Most of the people are out enjoying Halloween for the fun for which it was intended, but beware there are still people out there that want to cause harm.  Don’t make yourself an easy target by venturing into dark spaces, where help cannot easily find you.

Check your candy haul.

So, you’ve managed to have a great time gathering candy from your neighbors!  That’s awesome, but there is still a bit of safe guarding we need to do before you can dive into your stash.  Check all of the candy for sharp objects, loosely wrapped candy, and baggies filled with treats.  Throw those items out as they can pose a serious risk to your health.  If you have second doubts about any item in your bag, the best thing to do is simply toss it.  Candy isn’t going away, you can always buy more at the store.
